Tap to Pay on iPhone

A busy stream of bookings requires a quick and easy checkout solution. Here, we’ll guide you through activating Tap to Pay on iPhone to securely accept contactless payments in person without needing any extra hardware.

Getting started 

To start taking payments using Tap to Pay, you’ll need to have: 

  • An iPhone (XS model or newer) using at least iOS 16.4 software.
  • The latest version of the Fresha partner app.

If you’re a team member, you’ll also need access to checkout appointments. The business owner can enable these permissions for you.  

NOTE: Currently, Tap to Pay is not available on Apple iPads or Android mobile phones however, we're currently developing this for Android and hope to have it enabled soon.

Activate Tap to Pay

To activate Tap to Pay:

  1. Open the Fresha partner app on your iPhone. 
  2. Head to your Calendar and open the appointment you want to checkout, or create a new appointment for a walk-in client. 
  3. Tap Checkout and review your cart before you Continue to payment
  4. Select your payment method as Tap to Pay and Continue to payment.
  5. Link any valid Apple ID with the Fresha account. You can choose to Continue with This Apple ID or Use a Different Apple ID.
  6. From the appointment checkout screen, tap Pay now.
  7. When prompted on-screen to Hold Here to Pay, ask your client to tap their contactless card or digital wallet.
  8. Once the payment has been processed, a transaction receipt will be generated which can be shared with the client by tapping Share receipt

NOTE: You can set up Tap to Pay with any valid Apple ID, even if it's not the one you use for your iPhone or Fresha account.

Checkout using Tap to Pay 

Tap to Pay accepts contactless credit or debit cards and digital wallets, with all payments collected directly into your business wallet. To checkout with Tap to Pay: 

  1. Open the Fresha partner app on your iPhone. 
  2. From your Calendar, open the appointment you want to checkout or create a new appointment for a walk-in client. 
  3. Tap Checkout and review your cart before you Continue to payment.
  4. Select your payment method as Tap to Pay and Pay now.
  5. When prompted on-screen to Hold Here to Pay, ask your client to tap their contactless card or digital wallet.
  6. Once the payment has been processed, a transaction receipt will be generated which can be shared with the client by tapping Share receipt.

NOTE:

  • Any team member can checkout an appointment using Tap to Pay on their own iPhone as long as they are logged into the workspace with the correct permissions, iPhone model, and iOS software.

Q. Where is Tap to Pay available? 

Currently, Tap to Pay with Fresha is only available for users in the UK, US, Netherlands, France, and Australia.


Q. How much does it cost to use Tap to Pay?

When using Tap to Pay, standard processing fees will apply along with an integration cost fee. Please visit our website for pricing details. 


Q. Does Tap to Pay work on any iPhone model? 

No, tap to Pay on iPhone is only compatible with iPhone XS and above. You'll need to be using at least iOS 16.4 software or later.  


Q. Can I use Tap to Pay on my Android?

No, Tap to Pay with Fresha is not yet available on Android however, we're currently developing this and hope to have it enabled soon. Tap to Pay is currently only available on Apple iPhones through the Fresha partner app.


Q. Can I use Tap to Pay on an iPad? 

No, Tap to Pay on iPhone is not currently available on iPad. You'll need an iPhone (model XS or newer using iOS 16.4 software or later) to use the Tap to Pay feature.  


Q. Why there is no Tap to Pay option available on my iPhone at the checkout?

Tap to Pay is currently available only in the UK, US, Netherlands, France, and Australia. Ensure your device is an iPhone XS or newer with iOS 16.4 or later and that the Fresha partner app is up to date. Additionally, review your location information and ensure all fields are filled in, including your full location address. Q. Can clients use any card to pay using Tap to Pay?

Yes, customers can use their credit and debit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover) or Digital Wallets (Apple Pay and Google Pay) for Tap to Pay payments as long as their cards support contactless payments. Q. Does Tap to Pay accept FSA and HSA cards?

Tap to Pay on iPhone does not currently support flexible spending accounts (FSA) and health savings accounts (HSA) cards as these are not yet accepted through our payment processing provider, Adyen. Fresha's Tap to Pay will accept contactless credit and debit cards via Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover and, Digital Wallets (Apple/Google Pay).


Q. Will Tap to Pay accept money into my team members' personal wallets if they're self-employed?

No, payments accepted through Tap to Pay will only be collected directly into your business wallet. These payments cannot be set up to individual team member wallets. Once the payment has been collected, you can send the payment from your business wallet to the relevant team member's personal wallet.


Q. When will the payment be deposited in my wallet when using Tap to Pay?

Your Tap to Pay transactions will appear in your business wallet as soon as the payment has been processed - you can view the transaction under the business wallet's Account activity. The money is released into your bank account according to the payout schedule you've setup in your Fresha account. 


Q. How do chargebacks work if my client paid using Tap to Pay?

Chargebacks initiated for transactions processed via iPhone’s Tap to Pay feature will follow the same procedure as chargebacks initiated for any other card transactions within the Fresha platform. Learn more about the chargeback process and prevention methods.


Q. Do I need to download an app for Tap to Pay?

No, you won’t need to download any additional apps to use Tap to Pay with Fresha. This option is available directly in the Fresha partner app when checking out an appointment.


Q. Is the transaction fee refunded when using Tap to Pay?

No, all card transactions processed through Fresha, including refunds, are subject to the payment processing fee. The card payment processing fees are non-refundable as the service of collecting the money was already provided.


Q. Should I keep my terminal now that the Tap to Pay option is available?

We recommend keeping your card terminal as a backup as some clients might not have an iPhone or prefer using Tap to Pay. The card terminal allows you to accommodate various payment preferences.


Q. Is there a maximum amount when using Tap to Pay?

No, there is no maximum amount when processing card payments using Tap to Pay.


Q. Does Afterpay work with Tap to Pay?

Yes, you add Tap to Pay to the existing store at the current location and use the MID (Merchant ID) of the existing terminal assigned to that location.
